The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the tourism industry and the creative economy in Indonesia. It is serious that since February 2020 the number of foreign tourists entering Indonesia decreased very drastically, its peak happen in April 2020 with the number of tourists reaching only 158 thousand, based on the data that summed up from Buku Tren Pariwisata 2021, published by Minister of Tourism and The Creative Economy.

In total, throughout 2020 the number of foreign tourists who visited Indonesia was only about 4,052 million visitors. It can be said, that figure is very worrying, because of the total, only about 25% of the number of tourists who entered Indonesia in 2019.

This also has impact on state revenues. The implementation of large scale social restrictions and the closure of in and out coming access to Indonesia, caused the decrease state revenues from tourism sector, totaling Rp 20,7 billion

The worst is, the decline of foreign tourists has direct impact on occupancy of hotels in Indonesia. From January to February, the occupancy was on the levels of 49.17% and 49.22%. But in March, it became 32.24%, and it worsened when entering the beginning of April, that is 12.67%

The impact of covid-19 pandemic on tourism sector in Indonesia can also be seen from the decreased of working hours. About 12.91 million worker in tourism sector have experienced the reduction the cutting of working hours, and 939 employees worker in tourism sector are temporarily unemployed

In addition, COVID-19 pandemic also has a direct impact on various jobs in tourism sector. According to BPS 2020 data, around 409,000 workers in the tourism sector have lost their jobs because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
